A recent episode of the BBC’s “Trust Me I’m a Doctor” highlighted research done by Professor Barbara Maher of Lancaster University that shows the drastic reduction in air pollution achievable by planting trees.  Microscopic hairs on Silver Birch leaves trap air-borne pollution, then it is washed off, leaving the hairs free to trap more dust.
